Do you think America is doomed because so many of our people have become lazy and selfish?

I'd like to know if people are really giving up on our country the way they seem to be, both in my personal experience and in the media's portrayal. I'm retired from the US military and proud of my country, it just saddens me to see so much mud thrown at the US when it has meant so much to me and many others. Are we really an evil force that needs to be banished from the planet? Is there some better form of government than ours? Do we deserve to lose our freedom because we've been so careless with it? Am I the only one thinking about this?
