How has the relationship between the church and the State changed since the witch hunting days of King James?

Was that not around 1611 when he came out with the King James Bible so that would be 400 years back or two hundred years after the intellectuals of the world found out the earth really was not flat so time moves on and people mature both religiously and intellectually I do believe the bible was used to help the intellectuals see the earth really was not flat
