Should I move back home after relocating far away for a job?

Hi there, I relocated about 1000 miles away form home for a "development opportunity." Its been about 6 months now and I am extremely home sick. The job is going alright but I am not very fond of the people or the company anymore. Its been extremely hard to make new friends too. I feel guilty though because I have not expressed my disappointment to my boss. In fact I will admit that I am scared. The company is a fortune 500 company and they truly believe in me and want to invest in me but the bottom line is that I miss home and am not very happy. I do feel that my relocation was a mistake (on my part) and that I did not fully evaluate my true feelings and what possible obstacles I may face by relocating. If I do decide to move back "home", this decision will impact my ability to advance within the company and I will probably have to resign, but in the end my happiness is more important (I think). Ideas/Thoughts? Thanks
